Kony has supported HTML5 since early 2010, is live with many customers, and has continued to refine and optimize its implementation on supported devices as they’ve been introduced into the market.  Kony’s approach has always been to provide complete coverage to our customers so that they never have to make a decision whether to support HTML5 or native applications. They can and should do both, and on as many devices as they can.

With the Kony Platform:

• Produce device-optimized HTML5 sites for the iPhone, Android, BlackBerry Torch and others. Manufacturers often have different implementations of HTML5 and with Kony these individualizations are taken care of for you
• Reuse the rich functionality, business logic and integration your native mobile applications use without resorting to a ‘lowest common denominator’ approach
• Access the device’s location-based services functionality, store local data and embed media such as audio and video. Kony’s HTML5 browser applications can have very similar features to native applications for users who prefer a website over a downloaded app

Kony is at the forefront of HTML5 standards and has adopted a phased approach so as to provide as complete coverage as possible. Some highlights include:

• Making use of application level caching
• Support for embedded audio and video elements
• GeoLocation API integration
• Adopting CSS 3 specifications such as imageless gradients, rounded edges and borders, shadows, background images and more

Kony has developed a client-side framework that enables better interactivity with the mobile site:

• Handling widget events
• Setting the CSS transitions
• Executing background tasks for specific sets of widgets: charts and streaming data, for example
• Storing information locally
